Drug Uses
Lotrel is used for treatment of high blood pressure.
How Taken
Use Lotrel as directed by your doctor. Take Lotrel with or without a meal. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may increase the risk of side effects from Lotrel. Talk with you doctor before including grapefruit or grapefruit juice in your diet. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Lotrel, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Lotrel, if you have or ever had heart failure, any heart disease, aortic stenosis (an abnormal narrowing of the opening of the aortic valve in the heart), liver or kidney problems, a kidney transplant, or diabetes, if you have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus), hardening of skin disease (scleroderma), bone marrow suppression, low blood counts, low blood pressure, low blood sodium, high blood potassium, or narrowing or hardening of the arteries of the brain, or you are dehydrated, if you are scheduled to have surgery or are to receive anesthesia or kidney dialysis, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Lotrel may cause fetal and newborn death if you take it while you are pregnant. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor right away. Lotrel is found in breast milk. Do not breast–feed while taking Lotrel. Some medicines may interact with Lotrel. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Lotrel if you are using iron dextran by injection. Check with your doctor before you use a salt substitute or a product that has potassium in it. A persistent, unproductive cough may occur. Tell your doctor if this occurs. Recovery is rapid when the medicine is stopped. Lab tests, including blood pressure, may be performed while you use Lotrel. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. Lotrel should not be used in children. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Dizziness or lightheadedness when sitting or standing, headache, persistent, dry cough, swelling of the hands or feet. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), chest pain, infection (fever, sore throat), irregular or slow heartbeat, yellowing of skin or eyes.
Storage
Store Lotrel at 77 °F (25 °C), excursions permitted to 59 to 86 °F (15 to 30 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Lotrel out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Lotrel overdose are- dizziness, fast heartbeat, lightheadedness, loss of consciousness.
More Information
Lotrel may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. These effects may worsen if Lotrel is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Lotrel with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Lotrel should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor
