Drug Uses
Deltasone is used to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms in a variety of disorders, such as lupus, severe psoriasis, severe asthma, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Deltasone as directed by your doctor. To avoid stomach upset take Deltasone with a meal. Do not stop taking Deltasone suddenly if you have been taking it for a few weeks. You may need a gradual reduction in dosage.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Deltasone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Deltasone, if you have kidney, liver or heart disease, high blood pressure, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, stomach ulcers, hypothyroidism, a psychiatric condition, osteoporosis, myasthenia gravis, or diabetes mellitus., if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Deltasone should be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Some medicines may interact with Deltasone. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Deltasone if you have a serious bacterial, viral, or fungal infection. Deltasone weakens the body's immune response and thus its ability to fight infection. Do not get a smallpox vaccination or any other immunization while you are taking Deltasone. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Deltasone.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- insomnia, nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset, fatigue or dizziness, muscle weakness or joint pain, problems with diabetes control, or increased hunger or thirst. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives), increased blood pressure (severe headache or blurred vision), or sudden weight gain (more than 5 pounds in a day or two).
Storage
Store Deltasone at 77 °F (25 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Deltasone out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Deltasone overdose are- obesity (especially around the stomach), a round face, increased hair growth (especially around the face), acne, bruising, increased blood pressure, swollen hands, feet, or ankles (fluid retention), and sore or weak muscles.
More Information
Deltasone may cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Deltasone is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Deltasone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Deltasone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
