Drug Uses
Provera is used for treatment of certain menstrual problems or uterine problems (e.g., abnormal bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia). It may also be used for treating other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Provera may be taken with or without a meal. Take it at the same time every day, with not more than 24 hours intervals between the doses. Talk to your doctor about the dosage suitable for you.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Parlodel, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you have diabetes, seizures (e.g., epilepsy), migraines, asthma, heart problems, kidney problems, or a history of depression, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Do not use Provera if you are pregnant. If you suspect that you could be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. Provera is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you are using Provera, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Parlodel, therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Provera may cause dark skin patches on your face. Exposure to the sun may make these patches darker. If patches develop, use a sunscreen or protective clothing when exposed to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths. Do not take Provera if you have vaginal bleeding of unknown cause, or if you have a history of blood clots, bleeding in the brain (e.g., stroke), liver problems, or breast or genital cancer. Provera may affect your blood sugar level, diabetes patients should check blood levels closely and ask their doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine. Provera is not recommended for use in children, safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- acne, changes in menstrualow, including breakthrough bleeding, spotting, or missed periods, dizziness, drowsiness, fever, headache, hotashes, nausea, nervousness, pain, rash, sleeplessness, stomach pain, weakness, weight gain or loss. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), chest pain, depression, lumps in the breast or under the armpits, partial or complete loss of vision or changes in vision, shortness of breath, slurred speech, sudden loss of coordination, sudden or severe headache, swelling of fingers or ankles, tenderness, pain, or swelling of the calf, weakness, numbness, or pain in the arms or legs, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Storage
Store Provera between 68 – 77 °F (20–25 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Provera out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately.
More Information
Provera may cause drowsiness or dizziness when taken alone or with alcohol or certain medicines. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Provera. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed.
