Drug Uses
Lioresal is indicated for treatment of severe muscle spasms due to a variety of causes, including multiple sclerosis or brain or spinal cord injuries. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Lioresal as directed by your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Lioresal, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Lioresal, if you have an infection or very high blood pressure associated with a spinal injury, if you have kidney problems or kidney failure, suffer from nerve damage, bizarre behavior, or have had a stroke, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Lioresal while you are pregnant. It is not known if Lioresal is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Lioresal, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Lioresal. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not suddenly stop using Lioresal. Your doctor can tell you the best way to slowly reduce the dose. Lioresal should not be used in children younger than 4 years old, safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, contact your doctor right away.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Back pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, increased breathing, increased salivation, itching, muscle weakness, nausea, problems urinating. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, and swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), agitation, chills, inability to urinate, loss of muscle tone, seizures.
Storage
Store Lioresal at temperature recommended by your doctor. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Lioresal out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Lioresal overdose are- dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, loss of consciousness progressing to coma of up to 72 hours duration, loss of muscle tone, seizures, slow or shallow breathing.
More Information
Lioresal may cause dizziness or drowsiness. These effects may worsen if Lioresal is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Lioresal with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Lioresal should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
